Idaho Becomes the First State to Ban Vaccine Mandates for Schools and Businesses

• Idaho passed the Idaho Medical Freedom Act (Senate Bill 1210), and was signed into law by Governor Brad Little.

• It prevents businesses, government entities, schools (public and private), colleges, and universities from requiring any "medical procedure, treatment, device, drug, injection, medication, or medical action" as a condition for employment, school attendance, entry to venues, or receipt of services.

• Businesses cannot refuse service based on an individual’s refusal of medical interventions, including vaccines or masks.

• Schools and educational institutions cannot mandate vaccines or other medical treatments for students or staff.
—— The law applies broadly, aiming to protect individual choice in medical decisions.

The law takes effect on July 1, 2025, giving entities time to adjust policies.

• However, Hospitals and clinics that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding are exempt from the ban, meaning they can still impose vaccine or medical mandates if required by federal regulations or their funding conditions.
