Easter | The Hidden Pagan Origins
Easter has origins that extend far beyond Christianity and Judaism, connecting to ancient mythology, the Anunnaki, and the symbolism of Lucifer. The celebration is commonly associated with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but its roots trace back to older traditions, including the Sumerian goddess Inanna, fertility rites, and celestial worship. The Jewish festival of Passover, or Pesach, meaning "passage," is central to Easter’s evolution. The Hebrew Bible describes Yahweh instructing Moses and Aaron on the ritual of marking houses with lamb’s blood to protect the Israelites from the plague. The festival symbolizes liberation, mirroring how Jesus’ resurrection represents spiritual renewal in Christian belief. Emperor Constantine I, during the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, established Easter’s date based on the lunar calendar, detaching it from Jewish Passover traditions and aligning it with the Roman Church’s observance.
Ancient Sumerian mythology provides an early narrative of resurrection through the goddess Inanna, also known as Ishtar in Akkadian culture. Inanna, associated with love, war, and fertility, was linked to Venus, the morning star, which in Roman mythology was referred to as Lucifer, meaning "light-bringer." The myth of Inanna’s descent into the underworld describes her journey to challenge her sister, Ereshkigal, the queen of the dead. Passing through seven gates, Inanna is stripped of her garments and ultimately sentenced to death. After three days, her resurrection occurs through divine intervention. This myth predates the story of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection and aligns with recurring themes of renewal found in different cultures. The shepherd god Dumuzi, Inanna’s consort, is condemned to the underworld as a substitute for her, creating another parallel with later religious narratives that feature sacrificial figures.
The association between Easter and fertility symbols such as eggs and rabbits originates from the worship of the goddess Eostre, an Anglo-Saxon deity linked to dawn and renewal. According to legend, Eostre transformed a bird into a hare, which laid eggs as an offering to the goddess. The connection between the moon, the lunar cycle, and fertility ties into the influence of the moon god Nanna-Sin, a deity venerated in the Mesopotamian city of Ur, where Abraham, the patriarch of monotheistic religions, was born. The presence of these ancient deities in early religious traditions suggests an interconnected spiritual heritage that influenced later theological developments.
The alignment of Easter with celestial cycles and mythological resurrection stories indicates that the holiday is a fusion of pre-Christian traditions. The Greek myths of Achilles, Memnon, and Heracles share themes of death and immortalization, further reinforcing the idea that resurrection was a widely explored concept in ancient belief systems. The Gospel of Judas, a non-canonical text, offers an alternative perspective on Jesus’ crucifixion, suggesting that Judas acted according to Jesus’ instructions rather than betraying him. This interpretation aligns with broader esoteric traditions that emphasize enlightenment through hidden knowledge.
Easter’s modern observance reflects layers of historical, religious, and mythological synthesis. The story of Jesus Christ’s resurrection incorporates elements of sacrifice and renewal seen in older traditions, connecting to the Jewish Passover, the Mesopotamian myths of Inanna and Dumuzi, and even the celestial movements of Venus. The symbolic representation of the cross can be interpreted as the transition from material suffering to spiritual enlightenment. The morning star, historically associated with Inanna and later with Lucifer, represents knowledge and transformation. Understanding these connections provides insight into how ancient cultures shaped contemporary religious celebrations.
